Nichol Wheatley is a Scottish artist mainly concerned with painting, murals and sculpture. He also acts a consultant on projects such as feature films, large complex art projects and the art elements of infrastructure projects.
He is known for his collaboration with his hero and mentor Alasdair Gray between 2005 and 2019. Most notably on the auditorium at Òran Mór, on the Western Baths mural and the Hillhead Mural at Hillhead subway station.
He is also known for his commercial fine art company Perfect Circle Art (1999 – present) and Maryhill Art school. (2009 -2012) Notable commissions include the large cycle of murals telling the story of Tam o’Shanter and the painting of the ceiling of St Aloysius.
At the new Stockingfield bridge, in north west Glasgow, he was the artist/curator for Scottish Canals with the responsibility of commissioning artwork that originated from the local communities. He has also created the Beithir, a large sculpture that will become the largest community artwork in Scotland over the next five years.
